Jesus

Who is this man

" The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old."

Proverbs 8:22

The heavens, the earth, the creatures, and man are all the works of old. Long before these things took place there was God. And the Word was with God in the beginning

" While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest parts of the dust of the world" Proverbs 8:26

"When he prepared the heavens, I was there: When he set a compass upon the face of the deep" Proverbs 8: 27

" When he established the clouds above: When he strengthened the fountains of the deep."

Proverbs 8:28

"When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: When he appointed the foundations of the earth." Proverbs 8:29

"Then I was by him as one brought up with him: And I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him." Proverbs 8:30

Here in the book of Proverbs we find scriptures that support the fact recorded in John 1:1, that the Word was with God in the beginning.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1

In this verse one could get the impression that the Word was God. That would be misleading because the word, "was" in the phrase, "and the Word was God," means "became." So, now we have to find out how the Word "was/became God.

"Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son. Whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds." Hebrews 1:2

"The same was in the beginning with God. John 1:2

"All things were made by him: And without him

was not anything made that was made."

John 1:3

The Word has been appointed heir of all things. All things that were created were created through him. Then the Word became, "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." The great "I am," that Moses spoke to on the mountain. Now his role has changed from God, to the Son of God.

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt

among us." John 1:14

The flesh spoken of in the above verse, is the body of the son that the virgin would give birth to. Which was prepared by the Holy Spirit.

" Wherefore when he cometh into the world,

he saith sacrifice and offering thou wouldest

not, but a body hast thou prepared me.

Hebrews 10:5

This is the fulfillment of the prophecy in Isaiah.

"Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." Isaiah 7:14

This is the union of the body and the spirit otherwise known as being born of water and blood, but Jesus' birth was different than the normal physical birth of a soul.

"And so it is written, the first man Adam was

made a living soul. The last Adam was made a quickening spirit." 1 Corinthians 15:45

What is the difference between the two Adams? The first Adam is mankind that was formed of the dust of the ground, and became a living soul by the breath of life breathed into their nostrils by God. "Genesis 2:7" The last Adam is Jesus Christ who was "Quickened by the Spirit of God." Which means that Jesus was not made a living soul, but was made alive by the total spirit of God. You will note in the scriptures that it does not say that Jesus/Word became a man, only flesh.

" But made himself of no reputation, and took

on the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men." Philippians 2:7

" And being found in fashion as a man, he

humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

Philippians 2:8

Those two scriptures record that Jesus was found in the "likeness, fashion," of man. This means that he may appear as a man, but he was not. He did not have a carnal nature that all mankind is born with. He was made alive by the spirit of God. Mankind only obtains the spirit of God in measure. The spirit that dwelt in the body of Jesus was the total spirit of God. He was sent by his Father.

" No man hath seen God at any time; the

only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him." John 1:18

So, now who is this man called Jesus? He is the "Word that took flesh in the likeness of men and became obedient unto death. Wherefore God also highly exalted him, and gave him a name which is above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Peter says it best.

"Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?" Matthew 16:13

"And Simon Peter answered and said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." Matthew 16:16

The Throneless God

Is Jesus Christ God? Many say yes, others say no, and there are those who can't say one way or another, because they just don't know. In order to answer this question, we need to search the scriptures and see what the Bible has to say about Jesus Christ being God. First we must determine where Jesus came from.

"And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel

was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazereth." Luke 1:26

" To a virgin espoused to a man whose name

was Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary." Luke 1:27

These scriptures indicate that Jesus could not be God, for the simple reason that God was already in existence before Mary had even conceived. It was God himself that sent Gabriel to Mary. Listen to what he says:

"And the angel said unto her, fear not

Mary; for thou hast found favor with

God." Luke 1:30

"And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy

womb, and bring forth a son, and shall

call his name Jesus." Luke 1:31

"Also that Holy thing which shall be born

of thee shall be called the Son of God."

Luke 1:35

These scriptures indicate that Jesus can't be God, because Mary has found favor with God, before Jesus was born. She was told that she would bring forth a son, not a God. Yes, that which she would bring forth was a Holy thing, it was not God, it was to be called the "Son of God." Even though the prophecy of Isaiah says that he will be called by many names we cannot jump to conclusions and declare Jesus to be God.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son

is given: And the government shall be on

his shoulders: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God,

the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

There are the words, "The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father," that's enough right there to make many believe that Jesus is God. Before we can accept this scripture as proof that Jesus is God, we have to keep in mind what Isaiah is saying. In this verse we have to look at the words, "Shall Be Called," these words indicate a time yet to come. Yes, it is true that Jesus Christ will be called all these names, but not until he returns as "King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. So, until that day comes, Jesus has to be called "Te Son Of God." A God needs a throne, Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father's throne as the High Priest who made the sacrifice for his people. How can Jesus be God when he has no throne? Where does Jesus' throne come from, and when does he get it?

"But unto the son he said, thy throne O

God, is for ever and ever: ssceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom." Hebrews 1:8

"thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above

thy fellows." Hebrews 1:9

Here we learn that Jesus gets his throne from none other than his God. There is the first indication that there is a God higher than Jesus. The God that Jesus refers to as "The Father," makes good sense, we cannot have a Son of God unless we have a Father God. So, that is where Jesus gets his throne, but just when will he get this throne?

"Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool." Hebrews 1:13

We see that there is a period of time when Jesus has to remain at the right hand of the Father, until his enemies become his footstool. His enemies are the Israel Nation, those that don't believe Jesus is the Messiah/God, and the problem with those who believe that Jesus is God, is that they are worshipping him, and not the Father. We are not suppose to worship Jesus as God, only the angels in heaven are to worship Jesus.

"And again when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, and let the Angels of God worship him." Hebrews 1:6

This scripture makes it very clear as to who is to worship Jesus. When Jesus/Word was brought into the world he was to be worshipped by the angels. No where in the scriptures is it recorded that we are to worship Jesus. But Jesus does tell us who we are to worship.

"But the hour cometh, and now is when

the true worshipper shall worship the Father

in spirit and in truth: For the Father seeketh such to worship him." John 4:23

There it is, plain as day. We are to worship the Father. Even after Jesus was resurrected he still spoke of a God, his God, and his Father.

"Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended

to my Father: but go to my brethren, and

say unto them, I ascend unto my Father,

and your Father; and to my God, and your God." John 20:17

Now I ask you, when Jesus makes statements like those, how can anyone help but believe that there is a higher God, a Father to both us and Jesus. There is a higher power than Jesus, and that power is The Father thaat Jesus speaks about all throughout the Gospel of John. Jesus came to reveal the existence of the Father that sent him, his God. The God that gave him his throne, and the God that he returned to, and the same God that we all will return to. So, until Jesus returns he will remain at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest. When his enemies are made his footstool, he shall return and receive his kingdom and throne, and then be declared God.
